Arrival by car

The Kleinwalsertal is located in the north-east of the Austrian state of Vorarlberg and is only accessible by road via Oberstdorf (Germany/Bavaria).

You do not need a motorway toll label for the drive into the valley.

In winter please think of suitable tyres. In Austria it is compulsory to use winter tyres (min. 4mm, M&S) on snow covered roads from 1 November until 15 April.

From Germany:

Most arrival routes meet together in Ulm and continue on the A7.

At the Allgäu motorway junction via the section of the A980 to the Waltenhofen junction and then the 4 lane federal highway 19 via Sonthofen and Oberstdorf into the Kleinwalsertal.

From Switzerland:

Via St. Gallen toward Bregenz and from there via the cross-Alpine road to Oberstaufen, Immenstadt, Sonthofen and Oberstdorf, then further into the Kleinwalsertal. In summer, or if the Riedbergpass is open, there is the possibility of driving via the Bregenzerwald (Hittisau) – Riedbergpass – Fischen – Oberstdorf.

From Austria:

From Tirol you come via Innsbruck – Nassereith – Fernpass – Reutte – Oberjoch – Hindelang – Sonthofen – Oberstdorf – Kleinwalsertal or without passes via Garmisch-Partenkirchen – Füssen – Immenstadt – Sonthofen.

From Vorarlberg:

– see Switzerland.
